What natural element inspired the Corinthian capital design?

Oak leaves

Palmette

Acanthus leaves

Corinthian capitals are defined by their ornate crown made from acanthus leaves. Carvers arranged a dense cluster of stylized acanthus leaves that rise and curl around the top of the column, creating a lush, vertical flourish that supports the abacus. This plant-inspired foliage gives the Corinthian order its most elaborate, graceful appearance and sets it apart from the plainer Doric and the scrollier Ionic. The other options aren’t the direct source of the capital’s hallmark design—oak and laurel are symbolic leaves in other contexts, and a palmette is a decorative motif, not the primary natural element that inspired the form.
